Job Responsibilites:
A top 50 ENR Contractor has an immediate opening for a Director of Business Development for it's heavy civil business unit. The heavy civil business unit is primarily engaged in work in the federal (DOD, GSA, VA, NASA, DOE, etc.), aviation, and water and wasted sectors.

Primary Function:
Perform busniess development and coordinate marketing activities including planning and strategy for Heavy Civil Group on a National Basis. Travel to client offices and business locations required.

Typical Duties:


  1. In conjunction with the Business Unit General Manager and Corporate Sales Leader, develop objectives and strategies in support of overall corporate business development goals in the assigned segment.
  2. Supervise, and set priorities for other Business Development Specialists assigned to the Heavy Civil Group.
  3. Coordinate activities in the Heavy Civil Market Segments with General Managers and Business Development personnel in Regional Offices.
  4. Manage and perform research and client contact to identify and prioritize potential customers and opportunities. Assure that procedures are developed and carried out to carefully monitor client activity in all available media (FedBizOpps, customer websites, industry publications, etc.).
  5. Oversee the preparation and execution of business development action plans for specific targeted clients and project opportunities.
  6. Develop and/or maintain relationships with key dicision makers in selected client organizations to assure that the company if viewed favorably when it counts.
  7. Supervise the development of proposals, presentations and brochure materials. Train and assist project personnel committed in proposals to make effexctive presentations.
  8. Manage complex teams involving both internal and external personnel in the pursuit of complex CM and Design Build projects requiring teaming and collaboration.
  9. Meet client's needs prior to contract execution. Provide advice, liaison, planning, etc. to prospective and current clients.
  10. Participate with other business unit business development leaders in setting overall goals and strategies and actively utilize and support internal processes for tracking, monitoring and forecasting individual opportunities and overall results.
  11. In addition to leading Business Development efforts for the Heavy Civil Business Unit, sell the Company's capability at every opportunity.
  12. Perform additional assignments as requested by the General Manager of the Heavy Civil Group and the Corporate Sales Leader.

Job Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

Educational and experience requirements include:

  • Four year engineering or construction management degree and MBA with marketing emphasis, or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Prior experience in Business Development in the targeted market segments (Federal, Aviation, Water and Waste).
  • Minimum of twelve years experience in the construction industry, with demonstrable skill-sets, primarily in business development, presentations, estimating, project management and bid / proposal winning.
  • Must possess excellent communications skills - both verbal and written, with ability to product highly professional proposals and presentations.
  • Personality traits - entrepreneurial, honest, accountable, dynamic, hands-on hardworking goal orientated achiever who has a very collaborative & consultative sales technique / approach.
  • Other:
    Position highly visible to both corporate management and potential customers and requires ability to influence / persuade. Quality of effort can greatly impact corporate image and workload. Position has profit / loss consequences.
